The Big Challenge – The Competition of English Experts
The Big Challenge is a fun English competition for students in Europe. It was started by teachers and has been happening in France since May 1999. In Germany, it has been held since 2005Students from class 3 to class 9 (mostly class 5 to class 9 in Germany) can join. The competition happens in 9 countries: France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Italy. Every year, more than 630,000 students take part! . This year, it took place in April and classes 7a, b from Elbe-Gymnasium and joined in.
There was a story, and we had to answer questions about it. There were questions about culture, like food, geography, and history. We also had questions on pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. One task was to find the word that didn’t belong in a list. We even had questions about pictures!
Not long ago, we got our results, and we were super excited! There were special prizes. Everyone got a poster of London or New York and a pencil. If you did a bit better, you got an English storybook or a travel journal about England. The top winner got a power bank, a small flag, and even more cool stuff. Each class also got a United Kingdom flag – very nice!
We would have missed a lot if our “Schulverein” hadn’t given us the chance to join this competition. Thank you!
